The Bulldogs enter their third season under the guidance of McCartney in 2009. Over his first two seasons at the helm, Georgia has compiled a 34-27 record including the biggest single-season turn around in program history in his first year. In 2008, Georgia went 10-10 in Southeastern Conference matches, and the 10 league wins were the most by a Georgia squad since 2003.
The 2009 campaign will open with a tournament hosted by Georgia Tech Aug 28-29. In Atlanta, the Bulldogs will face the host Yellow Jackets, the Mercer Bears and the Austin Peay Governors.
Georgia then opens its home schedule by hosting the Georgia Dawgs Invitational Sept. 4-5 at the Ramsey Center. It will mark the second-straight season with a home tournament after not hosting one in 2007. This year's home tournament will feature Duke, Tennessee State and South Alabama.
The Bulldogs will host a match against Presbyterian College Sept. 8 before traveling to Long Island, N.Y., Sept 11-12, for their final tournament of the regular season. In the Long Island Tournament, Georgia will square off against Siena, Colgate and Long Island.
Georgia remains on the road to open Southeastern Conference play beginning with Alabama on Sept. 18 and Mississippi State on Sept. 20.
Next, before the Bulldogs start their home SEC slate, they will host Western Carolina for their final non-conference match on Sept. 23. The home SEC schedule kicks off on the weekend following that match with a visit from LSU on Sept. 27. The Bulldogs remain at home the following weekend for contests against Arkansas (Oct. 2) and Ole Miss (Oct. 4).
From there, the Bulldogs will spend just one weekend on the road by going to Tennessee (Oct. 9) and Kentucky (Oct. 11) before returning to Athens for their longest home stand of 2009. The five-match home stand will included matches against South Carolina (Oct. 16), Florida (Oct. 18), Mississippi State (Oct. 23), Alabama (Oct. 25) and Auburn (Oct. 28).
Six of the final eight matches will then come on the road with two, three-game road swings split by a final weekend of home matches. In the first of the three-game road swings Georgia will face LSU (Oct. 30), Florida (Nov. 6) and South Carolina (Nov. 8).
The Bulldogs will play their final two home matches of the regular season against Kentucky (Nov. 13) and Tennessee (Nov. 15).
Georgia then finishes out the schedule with three more road matches. The Bulldogs will take on Ole Miss on Nov. 20 and Arkansas on Nov. 22 before concluding the regular season at Auburn on Nov. 25.
The NCAA Tournament's first and second round matches will be Dec. 3-6 while regional semi-finals and regional finals will be held Dec. 10-13 at sites to be determined. The NCAA semi-finals and finals will also be at a site to be determined on Dec. 17 and Dec. 19.
