Three track and field athletes named to academic all-district team

Georgia track and field had three team members named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District track and field/cross country teams, according to a recent announcement by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Senior John Egan headlined the group by being named to the All-District first team and is now a candidate for the 2009 Academic All-America team. On the women's side, juniors Annalise Peters and Bridget Lyons were named to the All-District second team.
Egan, a Telecommunication Arts and Sports Management major with a 3.85 grade point average, moved to No. 10 in the school's outdoor record books after clearing 15 feet, 11 inches in the pole vault to take second at 2009 Bulldog Limited. In addition, he also won his featured event at the dual meet with Georgia Tech this season to help defeat the Yellow Jackets. Egan also sits at No. 10 in the indoor record books after reaching a height of 16-0.75
A native of Atlanta, Egan also earned a spot on 2009 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team after helping to start the Athens PBJs, an organization which helps feed and take care of the area homeless. Academically, he was named to 2007 and 2008 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Peters, a International Affairs and Environmental Economics Management major with a 3.95 GPA, was nominated for the 2009 Peach of an Athlete award, which is given to one of eight collegiate student-athletes statewide for character, scholastic achievement, athletic excellence and commitment to community. She is a member of the UGA Honors Program, a Presidential Scholar and a recipient of the Charter Scholarship.
A native of Decatur, Ga., Peters, who tied for the No. 7 spot in the indoor school record books in the pole vault with a mark of 12-0.50 and had a pair of runner-up finishes during the 2009 outdoor season, was named to the 2008 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Lyons, a Biology major with a 3.84 GPA, finished seventh in the 10,000-meter run at the 2009 SEC Outdoor Championships. She was part of the Lady Bulldog cross country team which had an SEC-best 2009 APR score of 996, which was in the top 10 percent nationally. Lyons clocked a personal-best time of 35:38.73 in the 10,000 at the Mt. SAC Relays to move to No. 6 on the school's all-time list.
A native of Evans, Ga., Lyons was named to 2008 SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.
