Poythress Named Rivals.com All-America

Georgia first baseman Rich Poythress has been named to the Rivals.com All-America Team as the designated hitter, it was announced Thursday.
Poythress, who was drafted in the second round by the Seattle Mariners in the 2009 MLB Draft on Tuesday, was Georgia's triple crown winner with a .376 average, 25 home runs and 86 RBI this season. Poythress set the single season school RBI record this season and is second on Georgia's career RBI list. The Grovetown, Ga., native is fifth on the UGA career home runs list with 43. He helped guide the Bulldogs to a 38-24 record in 2009 and the program's first No. 1 ranking in the regular season.
Poythress' 2009 postseason honors also include Louisville Slugger All-America, NCBWA District IV Player of the Year, All Ping!Baseball Team, NCBWA Second Team All-America, First Team All-SEC and SEC All-Defensive Team. He was also a semifinalist for Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy.
