Georgia junior first baseman Rich Poythress has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Sporting Goods All-America Second Team, it was announced Friday by the ABCA.

The ABCA All-America teams are collegiate baseball's oldest selections, dating to 1949. All Division I coaches have the opportunity to nominate and vote on these selections, which are initially compiled into eight All-Region teams.

Poythress, a native of Grovetown, Ga., was Georgia's triple crown winner in 2009 with a .376 average, 25 home runs and a school record 86 RBI. He is second on Georgia's all-time RBI list with 185 and fifth on the school's all-time home runs list with 43. Poythress was drafted in the second round of the MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners earlier this month.

Poythress' other 2009 honors include Baseball America All-America, Louisville Slugger All-America, Rivals.com All-America, NCBWA All-America, NCBWA District IV Player of the Year and First Team All-SEC. He was also a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and the Dick Howser Trophy.
