Former UGA golfer wins on Hooters Tour
Issue date: 6/29/09 Section: Sports
Former University golfer David Miller holed out a wedge shot on the 72nd hole to win his first NGA Hooters Tour event at the Bentonville Open in Arkansas.
The former Bulldog carded rounds of 62-70-68-64 to post a 20-under par 264.
"I just wanted to get through 17 and 18 better than I had in the first few rounds. I've struggled getting the ball in the hole on those holes and have made everything from par to triple, after I got up and down on 17 I figured if I made birdie on 18 I might have a chance. I didn't anticipate holing out for eagle, but it was nice," Miller said.
Miller takes home $35,566 for his win. Miller graduated from UGA in 2002, and was named a first-team All American.
"I'm pretty excited, I feels great to finally get a win," Miller said. "I changed irons three weeks ago and could tell I was hitting it well. I'm just happy to see the change was worth it."
