Georgia golfers earn All-America, All-Scholar honors

Four Georgia women's golfers earned national honors from the National Golf Coaches Association for the 2008-09 season. Mallory Hetzel and Marta Silva Zamora was tabbed honorable mention All-Americans, while Carolina Andrade and Tess Fordham were named to the All-America Scholar teams.

Hetzel, a senior from Summerville, S.C., picked up her second All-America certificate. She also earned honorable mention honors as a freshman in 2006. Hetzel finished with a team-best eight top-20 individual finishes in 11 tournaments, highlighted by tying for medalist honors at the UNLV Spring Invitational with Silva Zamora.

Silva Zamora, a freshman from Santiago de Compostela, Spain, also was named SEC Freshman of the Year after leading the Bulldogs in stroke averaged (73.61), par or better rounds (13) and top-10 finishes (7). In addition to the UNLV title, she also captured the individual crown at the SEC Championships.

Both golfers also earned All-America recognition from Golfweek magazine. Silva Zamora was included on the publication's third-team list, while Hetzel was an honorable mention inclusion.

Andrade, a junior from Cadiz, Spain, represented Georgia in all 11 events, with four top-20 and one top-10 finish. She was the only golfer to contribute a scoring round in all 31 loops the Bulldogs played during 2008-09.

Fordham, a freshman from Metter, Ga., was in the playing five for eight of 11 tournaments and chipped in scoring tallies in 73.5 percent of her rounds. She posted a season-best 74 in the third round of the NCAA Championships.
