Houts, U.S. remain unbeaten at World University Games

BELGRADE, Serbia - Georgia's Ashley Houts scored four points and collected four steals to help the U.S. National Team to a 75-67 win over Poland in World University Games play on Sunday.
The Americans improved to 4-0 and secured a spot in the semifinals with the win. The U.S. will face the Czech Republic on Tuesday, with the winner of that contest securing the No. 1 seed from Group E.
Sunday's victory was the first true challenge the U.S. has faced in Serbia. The Americans won their first three games by an average of 51.0 points.
After a tight opening quarter, the U.S. finally gained some distance with an 11-0 surge to end the first half and open the second stanza that gave the Americans a 43-32 edge. Poland pulled within 57-54 with 8:28 left in the game but got no closer.
Connecticut's Tina Charles and Kansas' Danielle McCray scored 12 points apiece to lead the U.S. Houts was 2-of-5 from the field and 0-of-1 from three-point range.
USA Basketball also announced that Connecticut's Maya Moore suffered a sprained right knee during training and will not play in the World University Games.
The Americans will meet the Czechs on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. ET. Both teams are undefeated to date. Australia and Russia are unbeaten in Group F and also will face off on Tuesday for the top spot from that portion of the draw.
The semifinals are slated for July 9, with the medal round games contested on July 11.
