Former University student Jean Reynolds shot a 2-under-par 69 Thursday to secure a second-place tie after the first round of the U.S. Women's Open in Bethlehem, Pa.
Reynolds, 24, is one shot back of leader Na Yeon Choi and tied with Lorena Ochoa and Cristie Kerr.
A Georgia native who has won twice on the Futures Tour, Reynolds earned a spot to play at the Open though regional qualifiers.
She is the present Futures Tour money leader with $63,000 in winnings.
"I've been playing every week on the Duramed Futures Tour and had a lot of under-par rounds," Reynolds said following her round Thursday. "I came out expecting to have a good round and play solid [golf]."
She tees off Friday afternoon in the Open's second round.
