Former Georgia great, and captain of the 1980 National Championship team, Frank Ros is the 2009 recipient of the Bill Hartman Award, UGA Sports Communications announced Tuesday. He will be honored during the Louisiana State game this Saturday.
Ros was a linebacker for the Bulldogs from 1978-80 and led the team to a 12-0 mark in their glorious run to the national title game against Notre Dame. In that game, Ros led the Bulldogs in tackles.
The Hartman Award is given annually to a former student-athlete that has excelled in his or her profession 20 or more years after graduating.
Ros is the Assistant Vice President for Latin Affairs for Coca Cola.
Woman's team gets a strong commit
The Georgia Lady Dogs need a point guard to fill the role of departing senior Ashley Houts, and they might have just found the person to do it.
Ronika Ransford, from H.D. Woodson High School in Washington, D.C., has committed to Georgia, her high school coach Frank Oliver, Jr. said in an e-mail.
Ransford is rated the No. 39 player in the country according to ESPN Hoopgurlz Super Sixty, and is said to have excellent ball-handling skills and an impressive attacking mindset, much like Houts.
"I felt as if [head] Coach [Andy] Landers could help me reach my full potential, and saw it as a great opportunity to become a better person on and off the court." Ransford states in the release.
