Students in the University System of Georgia could see an increase in January in the fees they pay to attend college.
Officials from the Board of Regents office shared the proposal with the Student Advisory Council to the Board of Regents at a meeting in Augusta on Saturday. The student council consists of executive leaders of student governments from colleges and universities across the state.
"The Board of Regents will consider a proposal at the Nov. 17 and 18 meeting for an additional $100 to be added to the special institutional fee to be assessed in spring semester 2010," said Cameron Secord, vice president of the University's Student Government Association.
"There is a potential for the total special institutional fee to be $200 for spring 2010," he said.
More detailed information will be available soon, he said.
"We understand the significant challenge posed by this budget crisis," he said. "This proposal may change, but we feel the need for transparency about what impactss us as students."
